Gianfranco Zaccagnino was born 28th of March 1942 in Rome where he lives and works.
He entered into the world of art very young: at twelve years old he met some artists of the so-called Roman School, while every now and then helping his father in his atelier in the centre of Rome.
The artist Archimede Maciocco remained very close to him following his artistic activity for about fifteen years.
<>Around the mid-sixties he took part in the first collective exhibitions and he attended the Academy of Nude of Rome under the guide of the Master, and then friend, Lamberto Ciavatta.The year 1972 marked the beginning of his artistic activity in a professional way with a very important personal exhibition in the Art Gallery “Il Babuino” in Rome. There he met the Bulgarian artist Ilia Peikov who had him in his studio for about two years.
In 1973 he exhibited in the “Galleria Cecchini” in Perugia, a series of metaphysics-surrealist works of art very much appreciated in the art world. It is around this time that the artist received a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to live and work for three years in the East European countries to specialize in graphics in the Academy of Warsaw and in History of Art in the one of Strunica in Macedonia.
Back in Italy he created abstracts paintings though remaining in the figurative context. At the same time the artist dedicated himself to various areas of Italian and international cultural panorama. He prepared important personal exhibitions like the one in the Museum of Palazzo Barberini, Rome, in 1982, and in the International Cultural Centre “Libero De Libero”, Rome, in 1985.
During the years he took part in numerous art exhibitions; In 2003 he exhibits for “Alitalia for the Art” at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome. In 2004 he wins the prize “Città di Roma” for artistic merits. From 2005 he is in charge of painting courses at “Città dei Ragazzi” in Rome for charity while he continues his artistic activity with personal and collective art exhibitions.
