Techniques Of Make-Up Artistry
Makeup course - 4 Full days 10-5pm - £850
- Bring writing material.
- All make-up and brushes will be supplied for use during the class time.
- A set of handouts covering all the teachings during the course will be given to each student for future reference.
- Students will be taught by demonstration followed by practical sessions working on each other.
Our make-up course has been designed to teach from the very basics of contemporary and special occasion make-up, through to photographic, editorial and HDTV. This course is ideal for those with no professional make-up experience as we teach from the basic skills through to more advanced and dramatic make-up techniques.
We have carefully selected a mixture of products and brushes for students to use from leading commercial brands such as MAC and Shu Uemura through to more specialist industry products. Students will be introduced to a mixture of different brands and products throughout the course along with information on specialist industry make-up shops and suppliers.

Course content:
Day 1: Natural Beauty - 10am-5pm
2 Looks: Natural earthy tones and fresh looks.
- Tools of the trade - A detailed discussion of brushes and tools, how, why and when to use them.
- Identifying skin types and how to prep the skin for make-up.
- Contra-indications to make-up.
- Hygienic make-up extraction and application methods.
- Undertones and colour matching.
- Liquid foundations and brush work.
- Lightweight foundations with a dewy finish.
- Concealers, colour correctors and light reflectors.
- Basic eyebrow grooming.
- Basic highlighting and shading for the eyes.
- Colour selection to brighten the eyes and refresh the complexion.
- Eyeliner for a natural looking finish.
- Natural finish mascara and immaculate cleaning of the eyelashes used for close-up beauty shoots.
- Powder blushers
- Lip liners and lipsticks and glosses.
Day 2: Defined Beauty 10am-5pm
2 Looks: Working with colours, Sultry bronze and gold looks.
- Applying cream foundations and sponge work.
- Eye shadow application and blending techniques for a defined look.
- Colour theory - how to choose colours that blend together beautifully.
- How to create sultry gold eyes.
- Working with eye shapes and corrective work.
- Various products and techniques for applying liquid eyeliner.
- How to apply individual eyelashes for a graduated natural looking finish.
- Cream blushers and shine highlighters.
- Highlighting and shading the lips.
- Fixing techniques for long lasting make-up.
- Waterproof make-up.
Day 3: Dramatic Beauty 10am-5pm
2 Looks: Smokey eyes and dramatic looks.
Complete different method to applying foundations from the previous two days. Techniques used for doing close-up beauty shoots with immaculate finish to the skin. Foundation application for use on photoshoots, HDTV and film, for brides with dramatic looks and camouflage make-up.
- Highlighting and shading the face using both creams and powders.
- Beautiful matt skin and puff work.
- Smokey eyes.
- Quick change make-up techniques.
- Powerful and dramatic eye make-up.
- Dramatic highlight and shading for the eyes.
- How to apply and blend multiple eyeshadow colours.
- Use of glitters and shimmers.
- Black and white khols.
- Use of eyelash curlers.
- Strip eyelashes.
- Working with light and dark skins - what colours to choose and avoid and the different effects colours have on different skin tones.
- Discussion on assessment.
Day 4: Bridal Beauty 10am-5pm
- Western and Asian Bridal looks.
- Working with two-tone pigments - how to pull out their undertones and how to use these techniques to create multi-dimensional effects.
- Re-cap on everything covered.
- Assessment - practical assessment session.
- Kit building - A detailed look at a professional make-up kit and recommendations on how to start building yours.
- Portfolio building - A detailed look at a professional portfolio, advice on professional presentation, portfolio content, compatible picture matching, and creating portfolio pictures for shoots and brides.
